HVDC = Hochspannungs-Gleichstrom-Übertragung
High Voltage Direct Current transmission. Used to transmit large volumes of electrical energy over long distances or between grids of different frequencies.
Inbetriebnahme (IBN)
Commissioning — the process of activating, testing and verifying all systems before commercial operation.
Inbetriebnahmemanager / Inbetriebsetzungsmanager
How your job title is called in German — Commission Manager.
Umrichterstation
Converter station — the heart of the HVDC station, converts AC ↔ DC.
Ventilhalle
Valve hall — where the thyristors or IGBTs that perform the conversion are located.
Schutz- und Leittechnik (SLT)
Protection and control — SCADA systems, protection relays, automation.
Übertragungsnetz / Übertragungsnetzbetreiber (ÜNB)
Transmission grid / transmission system operator (e.g. TenneT, 50Hertz).
